1. Install SmogDesk on your devices
SmogDesk runs on iPhone (App Store), Android (Google Play), Windows (Microsoft Store), and Mac (a signed, notarized download). The links are on the download page. One account covers all of them, so install it wherever you work: the phone you carry to jobs, the computer at the counter, or both.
2. Create your account
Open the app and create your account with your name, your email, and your business details, such as your shop name, address, and phone number. When you install SmogDesk on another device, sign in with the same account and your records are there.
3. Set your services and prices
Go to Settings → Services. Smog Test, Clean Truck OBDII, and Clean Truck Opacity are already there. Each service has its own price and cert fee, so enter yours, and add any other services you charge for.
4. Choose how customers can pay
On the same Settings page, pick which payment types show at checkout: cash, check, cards, or charge to account. If you charge a card fee, add it as a fixed card surcharge.
5. Add your logo and printer
In Settings, add your logo and choose your printer. Turn on auto-print under Settings → Printer if you want every invoice to print when you issue it, or print any invoice as a PDF instead.
6. Bring in your customers
If you already have customer records, import them from Settings → Import so you aren't retyping them. If you need a hand getting your records moved over, email support@smogdesk.com.
7. Write your first invoice
Start a new invoice. Scan Registration fills in the plate, VIN, and vehicle details from the registration, so you aren't typing them. Pick the service, choose the payment type, and issue the invoice, or save it as an estimate. Print it or share it as a PDF. Before you finish, set the next test due date and a reminder interval so the vehicle shows up in Vehicles Due when it's time.
8. Set up your fleets
Fleets can run on a charge account. Choose CHARGE as the payment type and the invoice posts to that account's balance. You post payments and print statements from the Accounts screen. The fleet charge accounts guide walks through the full routine.
9. Turn on reminders
Open Vehicles Due to see every vehicle coming due, with overdue ones flagged in red. Click Remind next to a vehicle to email the customer. They need an email address on file, so ask for one when you add the customer.
10. Billing and new devices
SmogDesk is $39.99 a month, billed monthly through the app store you subscribed from, and one subscription covers every device. To cancel, tap Manage Subscription in Settings. You keep access through the end of the billing period. On a new phone, install SmogDesk, sign in, and tap Restore Purchases in Settings.
